We currently have eight hiking trips and two kayaking trips scheduled.  Each trip will be led by a guide experienced in the route you will be taking.  Along the way, be sure to enjoy the natural surroundings and wildlife you will encounter.

Moon Ledge, a rocky outcrop, offers a spectacular view (cloud cover permitting!) into Massachusetts and Vermont from a grassy clearing on the south side of the mountain.  Join guide Heather Howe on this hike starting at 9am.

Moon Ledge
Our final hiking trip of the 2019 Outdoor Hinsdale event is an afternoon trip over the lower trail of Mt Wantastiquet.  This trip leaves at 1pm and is a good hike for families with children who are able to walk a few miles without getting exhausted or a parent who can push a jogging stroller.  The guide for this trip has not yet been announced.

The Eagle's Nest

Wantastiquet Upper Trail
We’ll be hiking all day in a remote area with guides Wayne Gallagher & Leo Marshall, starting at 9:30am. Elevation will offer scenic views so bring your phone or camera. We may see occasional wild life.

Bear Mountain
Our second night hike is at Pisgah State Park with guides John Herrick & Heather Howe.  This trip leaves at 7pm for a pleasant journey along several different trails in the park.

Pisgah
Our first kayak adventrue of this season's event takes you to Monkey Island with guides Andy Drummond & Kendra Gardner.  You'll have the opportunity to view wildlife that includes osprey, great blue heron and bald eagles.  This trip leaves Norm's Marina at 9:30 and will take most of the day.  Portions of this trip require strenuous paddling and is recommended for adults only. If you need equipment for the Monkey Island trip, Norm’s will supply it for FREE.

Monkey Island
Our second kayak adventure this year takes you in and around Liscom Hollow with guides Andy Drummond and Kendra Gardner.  This trip leaves at 9:30 am and you are very likely to see an abundance of wildlife along you the way.  Portions of this trip require strenuous paddling and is recommended for adults only.  For this trip you must have your own boat and equipment.

Hikers:
Hiking boots are strongly recommended;
next best is some type of sturdy footwear.
Canoers/Kayakers:
Required: PFD (life preserver); canoe/kayak; paddle.
If you don’t have this equipment, Norm’s will provide it FREE
for the Monkey Island trip. Waterproof bag(s) for gear.
Recommended for All:
Dress appropriately for changing weather;
identification; hat; sunglasses; sun screen/block; bug spray/repellent; lots of water/Gatorade;
snacks/lunch; small first aid kit; binoculars: phone or camera; backpack.
The Hinsdale Historical Society will be putting together box lunches for our participants. 
The cost is $10 each and will consist of bottled water, a wrap (turkey or veggie) and a snack, packed up in an insulated lunch bag. 
Your pre-ordered lunch will be delivered to your trip’s departure point before the
excursion starts.
